On a gross lettable area of 2,660 square metres, 87 studio apartments were created at the address Querstrasse 15/17. The apartments are located in a listed historic building originally raised by the architects Schmidt and Johile for the Teubner publishing house in 1907, and fully redeveloped for its new residents. "Even before the official opening, we have already let around one third of the apartments," said Rainer Nonnengässer, CEO of YOUNIQ AG. "This demonstrates the high demand for fully furnished studio apartments for the student community in Leipzig. We expect to achieve full occupancy by the 2011 summer semester."
The apartments with an average floor space of about 22 square metres each are let at an all-inclusive rent starting as low as 260 Euros. "All in" means there are no extra charges, while high-end furnishing and features as well as cable TV and a high-speed Internet connection are included. Moreover, some of the rooms actually come with a spacious balcony or rooftop patio. The future tenants also have access to a modern gym area and covered bicycle racks in the yard as well as 20 parking spaces in the underground car park.
Following the completion and successful letting of 90 apartment on Paul-List-Strasse in summer 2010, this will be YOUNIQ AG's second site in the campus town of Leipzig. "West German universities will be incapable of handling the imminent surge of student enrolments prompted by the soaring number of secondary school graduates and the end of conscription in Germany," Rainer Nonnengässer commented.
